How to Summer-ize Your Skin
When we dream about our skin in summer, we usually envision it being tanned, smooth and glowing……but the reality can be a lot different as you tackle sweat, sunburn, clogged pores, redness, dryness and premature aging due to the sunny summer conditions. In a panic, you might think you need to completely change your skincare but the reality is that you just need to have a set routine that is more geared to the summer conditions and, of course, stick to that routine.
Here are some ideas for a well-nourished, glowing, smooth summer skin:
- Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate: we couldn’t stress this more. Gentle moisturizing face scrub/exfoliator is a life saver in the summer. We sweat a lot more therefore our pores get clogged very fast…..AND at the same time — the sun dries out our skin so have a lot of dry flaky skin that needs to be exfoliates. We recommend exfoliating your face in the shower every other day. Be gentle with it but consistency is key.
- Double Cleanse is something that many estheticians used to do. But it is now gaining a momentum and rightfully so. We believe that double cleansing is crucial in the summer. Your first cleanse removes dirt, makeup and sunscreen. Your second cleanse will give you a deeper cleanse and healing ingredients’ penetration. It will hydrate and smooth the skin.
- Antioxidants: Vitamin C — an absolute mandatory ingredient for the summer is a high-grade antioxidant product — in the form of a Vitamin C serum. It has incredible photoprotection from the sun and any oxidative stress, such as pollution, etc…
- Sunscreen: By now everyone knows the absolute importance of sunscreen…..yet…..we all still manage to get burned one way or the other. It is so crucial to find a clean and effective sunscreen and actually use it! Re-apply it every 2-3 hours. Your skin will definitely thank you for it…….
